Psalm 10 - The Heart |
| 9 The LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. |
1 Why, O LORD, do you stand far away? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? |
| 12 For he who avenges blood is mindful of them; |
13 Why does the wicked renounce God and say in his heart, “You will not call to account”? (i.e., it looks like God has forgotten about the wicked)
15 Break the arm of the wicked and evildoer; call his wickedness to account till you find none. (The heart says "God has failed to act. Please do something") |
| 12 he does not forget the cry of the afflicted. |
11 He says in his heart, “God has forgotten, he has hidden his face, he will never see it.”
12 Arise, O Lord; O God, lift up your hand; forget not the afflicted.
(The heart says God has forgotten) |
| Ultimately the both affirm God. |
| 7 But the Lord sits enthroned forever; he has established his throne for justice, |
16 The LORD is king forever and ever; |
- Conclusion
- What's happening in your life?
- Look to the throne

A talk by Joe Wiltshire at St Tom’s Big Weekend 2011 on the topic of 'Perfection: The Goal of God's Plan'. This talk is entitled 'Presenting Perfect' (Colossians 1:15-29) and is the last in the four-talk series.
Talk outline:
- Where have we come so far?
- The 'M' word
- Counting the cost
- God's plan is our work
- Implications
- Always be looking outside the present group
- Ministry requires both personal and corporate sacrifice
- There is no magic bullet
- False teachers are the ones who look for ease and popularity
- Not all of us are teachers
- For those that are teachers, teach the negative as well as the positive
- For anyone to be saved and grow as a Christian, they have to hear the word of the Gospel
- We've got to have the right expectations:
- The world to be against you
- That God will work
- Give up your life for the sake of the glory of God, for the sake of Jesus, for the sake of others and for your own sake

- Keep putting sin to death
- Confession is important
- There's a danger of moralising
- We need to have very realistic expectations of others
- We need to set an example in both righteousness and confession for others
- The danger of pride

October 29th, 2011
A talk by Joe Wiltshire at St Tom’s Big Weekend 2011 on the topic of 'Perfection: The Goal of God's Plan'. This talk is entitled 'The Perfect Son' (Hebrews 4:14-5:10) and is the second in the four-talk series.
Talk outline:
- The central event in God's perfect plan: The perfecting of his Son
- How can God be made perfect? Some observations...
- Without this...
- What perfection doesn't mean
- What perfection does mean
- How Jesus was made perfect
- How can Jesus 'learn obedience'?
- He learned the cost of obedience
- He learned what it was to be tempted
- He learned that obedience to his Father's will and perfect plan would mean the ultimate price
- He desired his Father's will more than his own life
- Jesus' prayer is heard because of his reverence
- Jesus' death is how he achieved salvation for mankind
- Implications:
- The only proper response is awe and thanksgiving
- It ought to lead us to repentance and trust
- We must not harden our hearts and become disobedient
- Know that Jesus can help you in your temptations and sympathises with you
- There is no other way of salvation
- We need to be aware of the danger of 'works'
